Transanal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization (THD) or Hemorrhoidal Artery Ligation (HAL) is a minimally invasive, stitch-based treatment for hemorrhoids that offers excellent long-term relief without cutting or removing tissue. At Cosmocare Piles & Hernia Center in Dubai, patients experience a smooth and comfortable surgical journey, performed by an experienced colorectal and laser surgeon with advanced expertise in hemorrhoid care.
Patients undergo a simple evaluation, including anorectal examination and routine blood tests. A light diet and cleansing enema are advised before surgery. Fasting for 6 hours prior to the procedure is usually required.
The procedure is performed under short general or spinal anesthesia. Using a Doppler-guided proctoscope, the surgeon identifies and ligates the arteries supplying the hemorrhoids. In some cases, a mucopexy (lifting of the prolapsed tissue) is performed. The entire surgery takes 30-45 minutes, and since there is no tissue cutting or open wound, pain and bleeding are minimal.
Post-operative Recovery:
Patients can usually go home the same day. Mild discomfort or a sensation of fullness may occur for a few days. Most return to normal work in 5-7 days. A high-fiber diet, plenty of fluids, and stool softeners are recommended to prevent straining. Heavy lifting or prolonged sitting should be avoided for a week.

No, it is a minimally invasive with minimal pain hemorrhoid surgery since no external cuts are made.
Most patients resume normal activity within 3-5 days after surgery.
Recurrence is minimal (<15%) when combined with lifestyle and dietary modifications.
Usually not. THD / HAL is a day-care or short-stay procedure.
It is most effective for Grade II and III hemorrhoids and selected Grade IV cases without thrombosis.
