Open Hemorrhoidectomy, also known as Conventional Piles Surgery, is a traditional and time-tested method used to remove large or advanced hemorrhoids. At Cosmocare Piles & Hernia Center, Dubai, Dr. Murtaza Pithawala, a highly experienced General and Laparoscopic Surgeon, performs this procedure with utmost precision and patient comfort in mind. Although newer minimally invasive options like Laser Hemorrhoidectomy and THD / HAL Surgery are now preferred, open surgery may still be needed for very large or recurrent piles.
Before surgery, Dr. Murtaza performs a detailed consultation and proctoscopic examination to confirm the grade and type of hemorrhoids. Routine blood tests and fitness evaluation are done. Patients are advised to:
Open hemorrhoidectomy is performed under spinal or general anesthesia in a hospital setting. The surgeon gently excises the hemorrhoidal tissue using surgical scissors or diathermy and ties off the blood vessels to prevent bleeding. The wounds may be left open (Milligan-Morgan technique) or closed with absorbable sutures (Ferguson technique).
Patients usually stay in the hospital for one night. Recovery takes 7–10 days, depending on healing and pain tolerance.
Because of these factors, Laser Hemorrhoidectomy and THD / HAL Surgery are now preferred by most patients and surgeons for faster, safer, and more comfortable recovery.
