What is a Hernia?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – Hernia Surgery in Dubai

The only permanent treatment for a hernia is surgery. Depending on the type and severity, Dr. Murtaza offers both laparoscopic (minimally invasive) and open hernia repair procedures.

Laparoscopic ingunal hernia repair is associated with very minimal pain, very small scars, and a much faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery, although ventral repairs are more painful.

Most patients who undergo laparoscopic hernia repair in Dubai can return to routine activities within 2–3 days and allowed to resume exercises and heavy work in 1 weeks’ time.

Laparoscopic repair done by TEP technique definitely offers advantages over open repair. Patients have lesser pain, quicker recovery and the mesh is placed in the optimal position to take the load off the abdominal wall and prevent recurrence.

For bilateral inguinal hernias, laparoscopic TEP repair is considered gold standard as through the same three small incisions in midline, both hernias can be repaired, therefore considerably minimising post surgery pain and ensuring quicker recovery. The total length of incision is reduced from 10-12cm to 2cm!!

With modern mesh techniques and expert surgical care, recurrence rates are very low. Choosing an experienced hernia specialist like Dr. Murtaza helps ensure the best long-term results.

You should consult a surgeon if you notice a bulge, lump, or pain in the groin or abdomen. Immediate medical care is needed if the hernia becomes painful, hard, or associated with nausea and vomiting.

Yes. Dr. Murtaza has successfully performed laparoscopic hernia surgeries on patients up to 90 years old, with safe outcomes and quick recovery.

You can contact the Piles & Hernia Center Dubai directly by phone or email to schedule an appointment with Dr. Murtaza.

All ventral hernias, including umbilical, are better performed by laparoscopic technique as it gives better visualization of the entire abdominal cavity, hence less likely to miss small concurrent hernias. The mesh used in laparoscopic repair done through small cuts is a large mesh unlike a smaller mesh in open repairs.

Mesh shrinks as the ehaling happens over 6-12 months, sometimes as much as 40%. It is better to palce a large mesh having a 3-5cm margin onall sides to help prevent recurrence.
